Data sources and attribution
The Golden Map is built on the work of many people: volunteers who draw maps, photographers who share their pictures, and our team on the ground. Here is every source we use, its licence and the credit it deserves.
OpenStreetMap
An open map built by volunteers around the world. We use its public places, such as parks, walkways and mosques, and it is also the basis of the road and place-name data on the map.
- Licence
- Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. Licence text ↗
Because our public-places data is partly built on OpenStreetMap, we publish it openly under the same licence as AurMap Open Data.
Base maps: OpenFreeMap and OpenMapTiles
The map you see in the app and on the web (streets, neighbourhoods and landmarks) is drawn from OpenFreeMap tiles built on the OpenMapTiles schema, with data from OpenStreetMap.
- Licence
- The OpenMapTiles schema is licensed under BSD and CC-BY, and the data beneath it comes from OpenStreetMap under ODbL 1.0. OpenMapTiles licence ↗
- Credit
- OpenFreeMap © OpenMapTiles Data from OpenStreetMapIn this order, as OpenFreeMap asks, and shown in the corner of the map.
The AurMap field team
Our team surveys public places in Riyadh on the ground: names, locations, facilities, seasons and the official booking link where there is one.
- Licence
- AurMap owns this data. The parts included in AurMap Open Data are published there under ODbL 1.0.
Wikimedia Commons photos
Free photos of some of the larger public places, from the Wikimedia Commons repository.
- Licence
- We only use photos available under CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA.
- Credit
- Wherever a photo appears, we credit its author, its licence and a link to its file, and we mark it “modified” if we cropped or edited it.
Member photos
Photos of public places uploaded by AurMap members, shown after our team has reviewed them.
- Licence
- Under the terms of use. Terms of use (Arabic)
- Credit
- Each photo appears under the display name the member chooses.
Balady platform
Data on mosques, parks and walkways in Riyadh comes from the Balady platform, and the page of each of these places shows “Source: Balady platform”.
- Licence
- Shown inside AurMap only, and not included in AurMap Open Data. Balady platform ↗
- Credit
- Source: Balady platform
Open government data
If we use any other open government dataset, we will list it here with its name, the body that published it and its licence.
- Licence
- The licence of each dataset is listed with it here when we use it.
Naming any government body on this page only credits the source, and does not imply a partnership or official endorsement.
